Gathering Of The Departed

Gathering Of The Departed

We traveled recently to the gravesite of my stepfather.

It was a beautiful sun washed day filled with reflection interlaced with somber memories.

Those which were once cataclysmic now reduced emerging as nothing more than the merest moistening of the eyes.

And yet while standing silent, all around you hear them, slight whispers and gentle moaning amidst moving trees and other vegetation caused by no apparent discernable breeze.

They come in different shape and sizes where many are discernable by gender with some appearing angelically serene while others objectively grotesque and yet each come proceeded by varying wave upon wave of emotions which tempt and probe incessantly your very mind, heart, and soul, until discovering that part of you which may prove most receptive.

Such was and is the order of the day whenever entering such hallowed ground as that containing the alleged deceased remnants of those no longer living.

Upon entering such grounds at night though you may continue convincing yourself that very same logic still contains some shred of truth as your skin becomes seized by the sensation of being touched by someone or something as yet unseen.

For though they may lay deep within the ground the once was of the now dearly departed loved one in no way guarantees they will resist the urge to join the many who have proceeded them into the realm of the dead which exists all around our very own reality.
