Ellison Park, located in Rochester, New York, had first been the site for an earlier settlement named Tryon City, back in 1799.

Tremendous time and effort had been dedicated towards establishing settlement and commerce potential which had eventually included the complete construction of a store, blacksmith’s shop, shoe factory, distillery, tavern, tannery, large gristmill, ship yard, school, and warehouse.

But the bulk of all trade during that period had focused more through the falls area in what later became Rochesterville as opposed to the river creek bordering the city of Tryon.

Tryon City, through struggle, losses of trade, and people, was finally abandoned in 1818.

In 1926, the land was given to the city of Rochester, New York, as a gift for the purpose of creating another beautiful scenic park location within Monroe County New York.

Today Ellison Park is much enjoyed by both dog walkers and sport enthusiasts. Is constantly monitored by both park security and the police. And is only minutes away from the city to enjoy.

The park though does have another side to its outdoor natural setting.

For though little may exist of the original site of what originally had been Tryon City. Today indicated by a single solitary sign signifying what in the past had been a busy, bustling, section of humanity inspired by hopes and dreams of success long since abandoned.

There are some who may tell you that echoes of what once had been a thriving community years before are still hauntingly evident today.

Rochester Paranormal had conducted an investigative stakeout of Tryon City between 2005 and 2006 which resulted in the video captured of some of the unusual phenomena we experienced while there.

Video quality is regrettably somewhat poor as this was an early attempt at filming.

We will be returning to Tryon sometime in 2009.
